Compare the benefits you are actually likely to use.

DVH coverage can help with routine care and larger expenses, but plans differ sharply on annual maximums, waiting periods, networks, major services, eyewear, and hearing benefits. The useful comparison is what the plan pays for—not just the monthly premium.

The comparison that matters

Six details can change the value of a plan.

A low premium can be a good fit—or a poor value—depending on the benefit structure behind it.

01

Annual maximum

How much the dental plan can pay during the benefit year.

02

Waiting periods

Whether preventive, basic or major services are available immediately or later.

03

Major services

Crowns, bridges, dentures, implants and other higher-cost work deserve a specific check.

04

Provider access

Whether your dentist, eye doctor or hearing provider participates—and what happens out of network.

05

Vision allowances

How exams, frames, lenses and contacts are handled and how often benefits reset.

06

Hearing benefits

Benefit amount, frequency, provider rules and hearing-aid limitations can vary widely.

Before you enroll

Start with your likely use, then compare the contract.

Someone who mainly wants cleanings and exams may evaluate a plan differently from someone expecting implants, crowns, new eyewear, or hearing aids. We use those expected needs to narrow the comparison.

Question
Why it matters
Do you want to keep a specific provider?
Network rules can change your cost and reimbursement.
Do you expect major dental work?
Maximums, waiting periods and service limits become much more important.
Is vision or hearing the bigger need?
Bundled plans can look similar while those allowances differ.

Common questions

What people usually ask before choosing DVH.

Are there dental plans with no waiting period?

Some plans make certain services available immediately, while others impose waiting periods or reduced first-year benefits. The service-by-service rules matter more than a broad “no waiting period” headline.

Does dental insurance cover implants?

Some plans include implant benefits and others do not. Coverage percentage, annual maximum, waiting period and other limits should be checked before enrollment.

Can I keep my current dentist?

That depends on the plan. Some designs allow out-of-network care while offering stronger negotiated pricing or reimbursement through participating providers.

What about Medicare?

Original Medicare generally does not cover routine dental, routine vision, or most hearing aids. Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits vary by plan and location, so a standalone DVH plan may still be useful depending on the coverage already in place.
